As a member of FORME, you will be given the chance to use your creativity and imagination to turn your ideas into something that might live on long after you’ve graduated. This is your time to create life-long friendships with your peers through various leadership activities while learning skills to build a foundation for the rest of your life. FORME is all about people and joining our family will guarantee you an unforgettable freshman year!
Why apply to FORME?
FORME gives freshmen the opportunity to not only serve the community but also the opportunity to create their own. The purpose of this organization is to give encourage freshmen to think of new ideas that can benefit the campus and community. FORME also gives those freshmen the chance to put their ideas into action. It gives you an opportunity to expand your horizons and grow as an individual. If you’re coming into Texas A&M looking for a community and an opportunity to give back, FORME can give you that.
To provide a glimpse into what the experience of being in ASSIST looks like, the FLO’s Student Leaders completed an assessment of their previous year. The following should be used as information to help you make an informed decision about being a member of AFC, but please note that your experience may look different.
What does a “week in FORME” look like?
A typical week in FORME consists of multiple optional events and one required meeting. On Monday nights there will be separate guys and girls nights that could consist of anything from a movie night, to playing sports, to sitting around a fire. On Tuesday’s, or whatever day works best for the group, is lunch buddies. Each counselor will have their own small group of freshmen that will change weekly to share a meal with. Weekly meetings are held on Wednesday evenings and directly before the meeting is a dinner with all of FORME. Thursday mornings see a group breakfast. On Friday’s, FORME volunteers with adults with intellectual disabilities at a local organization called Beautiful Abilities. Depending on the week, weekend’s will hold various social and service events, as well as retreats with the organization. Spread throughout the week will be events planned by counselors with their individual social small groups called “Crews” and meetings with their committees to give freshmen opportunity to take leadership in the organization.
What did the remote experience look like due to COVID-19?
Surprisingly, the pandemic has made FORME even more tight knit. Everyone is constantly creating opportunities for us all to communicate. Whether it be constant Zoom calls, iMessage game tournaments, or a private Instagram for just FORME members to post what they’re up to. This unique situation has made each and every FORME member realize how much being able to spend time with the people in this organization means to us.
