Why apply to FLOC?

Freshman Leaders On Campus is driven by one overarching objective: to develop the freshmen living on campus into leaders of the future. We do this by engaging our members through opportunities that Texas A&M University offers to improve campus life as well as the Bryan/College Station area. FLOC provides members an opportunity to grow through leadership development opportunities and social activities in which members will make life-long friendships with their fellow Aggies. Our organization is made of students, for students, and for the University that gives us the opportunity to become the leaders that we are meant to be. Leaders at the heart of Aggieland.

About FLOC

To provide a glimpse into what the experience of being in FLOC looks like, the FLO’s student leaders completed an assessment of their previous year. The following should be used as information to help you make an informed decision about being a member of FLOC, but please note that your experience may look different.

What does a “week in FLOC” look like?

A week with FLOC usually starts on Wednesday with our weekly meetings that are about an hour. However, members and staff usually reach out to everyone to see if they would like to hang out during the day or study in the afternoon once the week begins. Later in the week, we either get together for a service or social event that usually lasts about two to three hours, depending on whether they are on or off campus. Lastly, depending on the committee our members are in, they may meet once during the week to discuss any plans or ideas for our FLO.

What did the remote experience look like due to COVID-19?

Our FLO’s experience during the year includes weekly Wednesday meetings, social events, and biweekly service opportunities. We also provide plenty of opportunities to study together, whether it be at Evans, the MSC, or any other location on campus. During the fall semester, we put on a two-day Fall Retreat for our members so they can build friendships with others, a Thanksgiving dinner where we all come together and write thank-you notes to each other, attend school-wide events, and have a Christmas gathering. Before spring semester starts, we try to host a winter retreat to create stronger bonds with everyone who is able to attend. In spring semester, we give our members more control over what we do during our last semester together, whether it be them planning our meetings, service, or social events. We are big on the family aspect of our FLO, which is why we create small families so our members are able to engage in much more than the regular events planned.
