Why apply to FLASH?
Freshman Leaders Advancing in Service and Honor (FLASH) is a half social, half service freshman led organization that is committed to developing its freshmen into leaders dedicated towards serving the greater good by instilling excellence, friendship, selfless service, leadership, and honor in all its members. FLASH seeks to fully integrate freshmen at Texas A&M into its organization and develop a network through which they can establish a foundation for success in their career at Texas A&M.
To provide a glimpse into what the experience of being in ASSIST looks like, the FLO’s Student Leaders completed an assessment of their previous year. The following should be used as information to help you make an informed decision about being a member of AFC, but please note that your experience may look different.
What does a “week in FLASH” look like?
We host weekly general meetings on Mondays at 7 pm that focus on updating the members what events will occurring in the following week, developing leadership qualities within members, and bonding members closer to one another. Lunch and library hangouts happen daily for anyone willing to come out and eat at the MSC or study at Evans! Each committee hosts a weekly committee meeting where the committee members attend and get updated on what’s going on in FLASH for the week. Big families host bi-weekly hangouts, which include but are not limited to; spaghetti night, movie night, a day at the pool, game night, going out to eat, etc.
What did the remote experience look like due to COVID-19?
When remote, freshmen in FLASH were able to host a gamepigeon tournament to get members involved with each other, we were also able to host a TikTok tournament where committees played against each other creating TikToks, determining the winner with the amount of likes the TikTok received. More importantly, staff members reached out to freshmen for support, making sure they knew they still had someone to rely on from the organization for anything, especially academics. Individual committees and big fams hosted Zoom calls to update and spend time with each other.

Does FLASH have a Big/Little Program? Yes
What does the Big/Little Experience entail?
The Big Program is very similar to being in a committee! Two bigs host a family of fifteen freshmen throughout the year, and they are focused on freshmen support! Your bigs will be there to simply hang out with you and be an extra support system for your first year at Texas A&M.
